The meaning and standard of sofa sponge density

- Feb 03, 2020-

Sponge is one of the indispensable materials in the sofa's composition and is the most important. It plays a decisive role in the soft and hard comfort of the sofa. Generally, sponges are classified according to density. The so-called density refers to the weight of each cubic meter of sponge.

Density is an important indicator of sponge quality. The higher the sponge density, the smaller the gap between the sponges. For example: 30-density sponge means that a cubic meter of sponge weighs 30 kg, 40-density sponge means that a cubic meter of sponge weighs 40 kg, and so on. But now some manufacturers, in order to achieve the high density standard, will increase the weight of the sponge by adding talcum powder to the sponge that has not reached the standard. Therefore, we should focus on the quality of the sponge to determine whether it is resilient or compressed . Under normal circumstances, the higher the density of the sponge, the higher its hardness, but if super soft additives are added, it will also become super soft. Therefore, the degree of softness and hardness of sponges of the same density is not necessarily the same.

The sponge gives people a more intuitive feeling is its elasticity and softness. So sponge can be divided into high rebound, low rebound, hard, soft, super soft points. According to the explanation of sponge density by relevant national departments, those with a density higher than 45 are high-density sponges, those with density between 45-18 are medium-density sponges, and those with low-density sponges are less than 18. It is used to make sofa material sponges, and sponges of different densities can be selected according to different parts of the sofa, but high-quality sponges are generally highly resilient.
